Piazza Gae Aulenti is doubtlessly the beating heart of Portanuova and the symbol of Milan in the future. Designed by studio Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, it has been defined – with its three fountains and waterworks – one of the most beautiful squares in the world, also in terms of innovation and environmental sustainability, which have earned it the Landscape Award. The elevated pedestrian path, extending from Piazza Gae Aulenti to Piazza Alvar Aalto, is the setting of countless photoshoots, television ads, and music videos we see on TV every day. Very popular among the Portanuova workers, but also a favourite among tourists and locals. A meeting place day and night, thanks to its numerous cafés and restaurants. And on hot days, some also like to refresh in the mirrors of water created by its fountains.
